If a message size was not defined, the :command:`message_table` will be consulted using the following algorithm. The first step for which a value is defined will be used: The process of determining the message size will use the first of the following which results in a defined size: * Use the entry from the matching 'comm_type' block with a matching 'type' and 'subtype'. * Use the entry from the matching 'comm_type' block with a matching 'type' * Use the 'default' entry from the matching 'comm_type' block. * Use the entry from the 'default_comm_type' block with a matching 'type' and 'subtype'. * Use the entry from the 'default_comm_type' block with a matching 'type'. * Use the 'default' entry from the 'default_comm_type' block. .. note:: The message size is only assigned when first transmitted. It will not be changed if it is subsequently relayed. Device Commands =============== .. command:: comm_type Introduces a block of type_, sub_type and default_ commands that define the message sizes and optional priorities for messages that originate from :command:`comm` devices of the specified **. .. command:: default_comm_type Introduces a block of type_, sub_type and default_ commands that define the message sizes and optional priorities for messages that originate from :command:`comm` devices that do not have a corresponding comm_type_ entry. Message Size Commands ===================== .. command:: type [priority ] Specifies the size and optional priority for a message of the specified type. .. note:: The **type** command can be repeated as necessary. .. command:: default [priority ] Specifies the default size and optional priority for messages that did not have an applicable **type** command. .. command:: subtype [priority ] Specifies the size and optional priority for a message of the specified sub-type, and the most recently specified type (or default). .. note:: This command may be repeated as necessary.
